Gemeinde St. Michaelisdonn
St. Michaelisdonn
Sankt Michaelisdonn is called "bridge between marsh and coastal moorlands" . The reason for this description is obvious when you approach the village from the direction of Marne or Brunsbüttel.
In the midst of the flat marsh the Spiekerberg rises near the southern outskirts of the village to a respectable height of 42 meter. Thus St.Michaelisdonn is really located in the marsh and on the coastal moorlands.

Friedrichskoog Spitze
Friedrichskoog
Old-established farmers and fishermen are descendants of pioneers: the land they live and work on had to be wrested from the sea. This was done approximately 150 years ago.
Protracted diking was necessary in order to make use of the fertile soil. Since then it was often enough necessary to defend the land gained against force of nature. Human being was not always the winner. Sizewise the municipality Friedrichskoog is the largest in Dithmarschen.
